“Someone once asked me what I regarded as the three most important requirements for happiness. My answer was: A feeling that you have been honest with yourself and those around you; a feeling that you have done the best you could both in your personal life and in your work; and the ability to love others.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt ~
There are so many distractions that can influence our thinking around true happiness. Get rich quick schemes, instant friendships and love found at a click of a mouse, or diet pills that guarantee results after 6 short weeks. We’ve been programmed to believe that these kinds of things truly will make us happy.
We can mask it with expensive homes, spending time at jobs that don’t fulfill our true mission in life or other material things that keep us in debt. I don’t judge anyone who has these things, however, it’s important to know that our list of “things” doesn’t begin to tell the story about what makes us truly happy.
I think Eleanor got it right though, and simply put, true happiness begins within.
